Good for a laugh but pretty average story line
This movie is one of my favourites, as it manages to be a teen movie, with all the hilarity and hijinx expected, while also a sweet tale of family matters and responsibility that will appeal to older generations. The stellar cast tells a lovely tale of a girl that finds out she is the princess to a small European nation, and is expected to learn to be royal. The soundtrack is wonderful, the acting impeccable and the story a real heart-warmer. Fun for all ages!
The Princess Diaries
She rocks. She rules. She reigns.
The Princess Diaries is a hilarious, hip and heartwarming modern-day Cinderella story from Garry Marshall, director of Pretty Woman and The Runaway Bride. Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway) is a bright but terribly shy and gawky teenager whose goal in life is to survive each school day with a minimum of attention and embarrassment.
Unfortunately, her wish to be invisible is thwarted when her strict grandmother (Julie Andrews) arrives and delivers the shocking news that she's a real-life princess – heir to the throne of Genovia. Furious, the reluctant royal agrees to take “princess lessons” and make the biggest decision of her life – in three weeks. And so begins a comical transformation towards poise and princess-ness when she finds herself in the middle of a media storm, jealous schoolmates and a plot to take over her country…
