Description

'Things were picking up for me. I made three brilliant new friends! Paul, Bruce and Rick. They were a bit older than me but that didn't matter one bit. Paul especially knew what it was like to be me. We shared the sense that something wasn't quite right between us and the rest of the world and listening to Paul's take on this made it seem much easier for me. I'd found a mate for life, and it didn't matter for a single second that he lived in a piece of twelve inch black vinyl and that we could only meet up when I put him on the music centre in the middle of the room.' In this disarmingly candid memoir, David Lines charts his life from just before his thirteenth birthday when he discovered The Jam, to his thirtieth with warmth and humour. David illustrates these seventeen years with landmark Weller songs from The Jam, The Style Council and the solo years, mapping out the occasionally bizarre events in a life of obsessive fan and wannabe writer to finally achieving his quest to become published. From Player's Navy Cut to Gitanes, boating blazers to cashmere sweaters, The Modfather is about acquiring style, finding substance and living life with Paul Weller.
