Keen on making some all round changes to a more healthier lifestyle, this cookbook appears to hit the right notes. It is NOT a diet per se, but offers good information on which food choices to make and is well presented with easy to follow recipes.

Description

Are you at a point in your life where health is becoming more of a priority? Are you confused by ever-changing headlines that contrive to make the simple act of eating a peril rather than a pleasure? THE MIDLIFE KITCHEN has the answers. Midlife is not a time to be concerned with food fads and foibles, but rather a glorious opportunity to wrest back control of your eating in the interests of health, happiness and a long life. Taste must certainly come first, but with health firmly snapping at its heels, underpinned by well-established nutritional common sense. Busy lives require simple, sustaining recipes that incorporate health-giving ingredients without too much fanfare or fuss. This book is not about 'clean-eating' or super foods, detoxing or restriction. Instead, it is about building up a balanced and diverse diet, with less sugar, better fat and good carbs. Alongside each recipe is THE MIDLIFE KITCHEN emblem, the star anise. With each of the eight seeds representing a specific Midlife Health category - such as Hormone Harmony; Mind, Memory, Mood; or Heart Health - authors Sam and Mimi are able to provide simple nutritional information. Health tips explain the benefits of certain ingredients, while 'Why We Love It' sections explore the advantages of cooking each dish. Midlife Must-Haves show how to create homemade essentials such as Midlife Grown-up Granola, Midlife Power Porridge and Midlife Sweetener. From Seared Sirloin on Pan-Roasted Veg to The Mother of All Greek Salads, Best Lunch Wrap Ever to Three Fire Ginger Cake, the recipes in this book come together to create a vibrant menu bursting with mouth-watering flavours.

Author Biography

Mimi Spencer is best known for co-authoring the best-selling The Fast Diet with Dr Michael Mosley, which introduced the concept of 5:2 intermittent fasting to the world. The Fast Diet has sold over a million copies worldwide, with translations into more than 30 languages. Mimi went on to write The Fast Diet Recipe Book and Fast Cook. Mimi's background is in lifestyle and style journalism, with an early career as a fashion writer for Vogue, the Evening Standard and then as editor of ES Magazine. She has been a columnist for You Magazine (Mail on Sunday), Observer Food Monthly and Waitrose Kitchen, while also writing lifestyle, fashion and food features for The Times and many national magazines. Sam Rice's career has taken her from management consultant and travel business owner, to sommelier, wine columnist and more recently, food writer. Following the premature death of her youngest brother, who suffered from type 1 diabetes, she decided to overhaul her diet in the interests of living a longer and healthier life. She wrote about the process in her book The Happy Eater, 4 Weeks to a Better Relationship with Food, which was self-published in 2014. Mimi, 49, lives in Brighton with her husband and two teenage children. Sam, 47, now lives in Bali with her husband and two children. They met at the school gates and have remained firm friends ever since. They have always wanted to work together and The Midlife Kitchen is the perfect collaboration based on their mutual interest in fantastic, healthy food.
