Floyd Merrell is Professor of Spanis h and Semiotics in the Department of Foreign Langu ages and Literature at Purdue University. He is a Visiting Distinguished Professor at the Pontifica Universidade Catolica de Sao Paulo (Brazil). His fields of specialization include contemporary Spa nish-American prose and Latin American culture and civilization. His many books include Sobre I as Culturas y Civilizaciones Latinoamericanas (On Latin American Cultures and Civilizations).
