"The Lost Symbol is an awesome attempt, but it falls short"
3 stars"

The book involves an elaborate plot surrounding famous objects. The author has done a great deal of research, for he has a historical fact attached to almost everything REAL mentioned in the book. You may come across facts in this book that you have heard of before. For example, in Bones or in The National Treasure. But this book definitely interprets them in a unique way. Awesome employment of imagination by the author.

The author has used short chapters, each ending with a so-called gripping moment. Nice use of italicized sentences to show what the characters were thinking.

The book involves a really good plot-twist – sort of like the one involving Jim Gordon in The Dark Knight or Barty Crouch Jr in The Goblet of Fire. Pages 320–420 of the book were the best – people running around, clues coming alive in every direction, and a race to save the nation. But the final 30 pages were a COMPLETE let down. They were too dragged out and I kept getting lost.

PS: I'll still recommend this book to my friends, but I'll advice them to keep their expectations short.

"Long awaited, unfortunately not worth the wait"

As usual, Dan Brown has done his homework in terms of facts and fiction. The book is brilliantly written and contains all the usual twists and turns which can be expected in a ‘Robert Langdon’ mystery. Coming from a family of Mason's I found the references in the book fascinating and the topic of many dinner conversations!

Unfortunately, the book lost me completely in the last few chapters. The ending is long, drawn out (unnecessarily) and frankly a huge let down as to what the ‘Lost Symbol’ actually is. Unlike the ending of the Da Vinci Code or Angels & Demons, The Lost Symbol seems to have become too wrapped up in the hype of the author and not enough in the development of a satisfactory ending.

Read and enjoy the ride, because it is a great ride, just don't expect too much from the outcome.

Description

“Impossible to put down…Another mind-blowing Robert Langdon story” New York Times

Famed Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon answers an unexpected summons to appear at the U.S. Capitol Building. His planned lecture is interrupted when a disturbing object—artfully encoded with five symbols—is discovered in the building. Langdon recognizes in the find an ancient invitation into a lost world of esoteric, potentially dangerous wisdom.

When his mentor Peter Solomon—a longstanding Mason and beloved philanthropist—is kidnapped, Langdon realizes that the only way to save Solomon is to accept the mystical invitation and plunge headlong into a clandestine world of Masonic secrets, hidden history, and one inconceivable truth… all under the watchful eye of Dan Brown's most terrifying villain to date.

Set within the hidden chambers, tunnels, and temples of Washington, D.C., The Lost Symbol is an intelligent, lightning-paced story with surprises at every turn.
