"Stunning almost beyond belief!"
5 stars"

With the final part of his Lord Of the Rings trilogy, The Return Of the King, Peter Jackson seems to have harnessed the strengths of the first two movies and created an all time classic right up there with Lawrence Of Arabia.

It seems at times as if David Lean has been reborn in the film-makers. They rarely make 'em like this these days. The achievement in even one of the films in this trilogy is hard to fathom but when you consider what Jackson and his team have pulled off with all three it would be unbelievable where it not for all the evidence on screen.

ROTK has all of the poetry and whimsy of Fellowship and all of the adventure and war of Towers.

Once again there is not a single area the film-makers have not achieved greatness in. The cinematography, acting, costumes, visual effects and music are as good as you will see anywhere.

As good as the enormous battle scenes are (and they will not be beaten in spectacle for years) it is the “smaller” scenes that stick in the memory – Pippin singing for the Steward as Faramir and his men ride to their doom, the ride up Minas Tirith and the stunning lighting of the beacons scene which is probably single handedly going to increase tourism numbers to NZ.

As if all of this is not enough you still get a terrifyingly realistic spider, an army of the dead, huge “Olyphants” on the charge, the reforging of the sword of the king and a very satisfying conclusion to a trilogy that will be remembered for a long time.

ROTK's eleven Oscar's were fully earned and this DVD set does the movie justice. The extra's are great and the image quality stunning.

An absolute must have DVD.
