Excerpt from The Kneipp Brochure: Sebastian Kneipp, Parish Priest of Woerishofen (Bavaria); His Treatment and His Works At many portals did he knock in vain till at last the Reverend Mr. Merkle, who afterwards became a prelate and a -well known author, and who was then living at Griinenbach, took an interest in him and enabled him to make such progress in his preliminary studies within the space of two years that he was able at the end 0 years more to pass the final examination at the Grammar School of Dillingen. On the 6'h of August 1852 he took holy orders in Munich. Since 1881 he has occupied the position of parish priest in Werishofen and at the same was fconfessor in the Convent of 8' Dominic, which latter duty he had performed since 1855.
