This film is unsettling, a little bit disturbing, but ultimately brilliant. It left me s h o o k. When I first saw it in the cinema during the NZIFF a few years ago, the entire audience stayed sitting in their seats for a few minutes after the lights came up in an effort to try and process what we'd just seen. Watching it again on DVD was even weirder. If you enjoy films such as The Lobster, VVitch, or The Wild Pear Tree you will enjoy this bleak, yet at times bizarrely funny, film. 5/5 highly recommend watching

Is your heart in the right place?

Dr. Steven Murphy (Colin Farrell) is a renowned cardiovascular surgeon presiding over a spotless household with his ophthalmologist wife Anna (Nicole Kidman) and their two exemplary children, 12-year-old Bob (Sunny Suljic) and 14-year-old Kim (Raffey Cassidy). Lurking at the margins of his idyllic suburban existence is Martin (Barry Keoghan), a fatherless teen who Steven has covertly taken under his wing. As Martin begins insinuating himself into the family’s life in ever-more unsettling displays, the full scope of his intent becomes menacingly clear when he confronts Steven with a long-forgotten transgression that will shatter the Murphy family's domestic bliss.

Special Features:

  • Interviews with Yorgos Lanthimos, Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell & Barry Keoghan

Critic Reviews:

  • “Gripping, creepy, intense and wholly original. It slots beautifully into 2017 as The Year Of Intelligent Horror; it is also, easily, one of the best films of the year.” – ABC Radio (Australia)
  • “What does it all mean? This may not be obvious while the film is unfolding but it's probable this is one of those movies that reveals itself in the hours and days after you see it.” – The Australian
  • “The Killing of a Sacred Deer is so tightly wound, every frame and line of dialogue has been expertly calculated to be uncomfortable, to unsettle.” – News.com.au
