Description

Excerpt from The Israel of God IT is nearly ten years since the present volume was first published in the city of Philadelphia. The simple purpose of its publication then, was to gratify the wish of a large circle of personal friends, who had often expressed the dc sire to have in print, some of the discourses which they had been accustomed to hear from the author in the pulpit. Since the first publication of this volume, more than three thousand copies of it have been sold. And in bringing out another edition, to which he has added some further selec tions from his sermons, the author would record his grati tude to God who has thus given his humble labors so much acceptance among his people, - and his affectionate expres sions of thankfulness to the many Christian friends who have so liberally encouraged and sustained his ministry of the Sacred Word. Great indeed is the privilege of pro claiming that glorious and finished salvation, which the Gospel offers to perishing men, as laid up in Christ alone; purchased by the merit of his righteousness, and bestowed by the exercise of his power. Never was there a time, when it was more necessary to preach and teach this great salva tion, in the simplicity of its divine revelation, in the words which the Holy Ghost teacheth. The author trusts that this volume will be found to do this clearly and faithfully. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
