Mads Mikkelsen (A ROYAL AFFAIR) delivers a superb, award-winning performance
in this electrifying new film from Thomas Vinterberg, the acclaimed director of
THE CELEBRATION (FESTEN).
The Hunt (Danish: Jagten) is a 2012 Danish drama film set in a small
village, and follows a man who becomes the target of mass hysteria after being
wrongly accused of sexually assaulting a child.
Lucas (Mads Mikkelsen) is beloved by his students and fellow teachers at his
local kindergarten. After a divorce, made especially painful when his wife moved
away from town with their teenage son, Marcus, Lucas’ life is recovering with
a new girlfriend, and the reforging of his relationship with Marcus. His world
comes crashing down, however, when a young girl in his class accuses him of
inappropriate behaviour. It’s a simple lie that spirals out of control and
the small community suddenly finds itself in a collective state of hysteria.
Long held friendships are tested as mistrust takes hold, and Lucas must summon
all his strength in a brave fight for his life and dignity.

The Hunt Reviews
“Vinterberg lands his finest film in over a decade with a taut, teasing
study in sense and susceptibility, given ballast by a suitably shaken and
shell-shocked lead turn from Mikkelsen.” Total Film
“..Mikkelsen won in Cannes for his quietly affecting portrayal of an
ordinary man on the wrong end of a devastating accusation, suggesting with
chilling plausibility that there are still crimes for which one is considered
guilty until proven innocent. Beautifully performed and tough as nails,
Vinterberg's social drama could not be any more timely.” Empire
“This is a splendid return to form for director Thomas Vinterberg,
after years in the wilderness following his much feted film Festen in 1998. It
is a damning portrait of close communities, directed with a firm and patient
hand, and shot with a beautiful fogginess that echoes the confusion of all the
characters involved.” The Independent, UK
“Vinterberg really has come storming back with this new movie, easily
his best since Festen, and a reminder of his superb gift for unsettling
collective drama: it is forthright, powerful, composed and directed with clarity
and overwhelming force, yet capable of great subtlety and nuance. The theme is
admittedly familiar, and so is the implied analysis of what is going on, and yet
Vinterberg endows it with such urgency and his superbly constructed script,
co-written with Tobias Lindholm, is a screenplay masterclass, completely
upending your expectations as how the climactic scene is going to play
out…There really isn't ounce of fat on this picture, and the cinematography by
Charlotte Bruus Cristensen is ravishingly good. Mikkelsen, an actor still
perhaps best known as the Bond villain in Casino Royale, shows just how
excellent a performer he is.” The Guardian, UK
