The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug continues the adventure of Bilbo Baggins as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf and 13 Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield, on an epic quest to reclaim the Lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.
Having survived the rocky start to their unexpected journey, the Company continues their quest toward the Lonely Mountain and the terrifying presence that lays in wait deep inside. But first they will have to get through the treacherous Mirkwood Forest, coming face to face with Thranduil, King to a race of dangerous and unpredictable Woodland Elves. Escaping the dungeons of the Elf-king the Company arrive at the shores of Lake-town where men struggle to survive on the borders of a waste-land, known as the Desolation of Smaug; a land destroyed by a giant fire-breathing Dragon many years ago. As they journey east, under siege from Azog and his Orcs who continue to hunt them, they must also stay beyond the reach of a new threat to Middle-Earth—the mysterious Necromancer that has risen at Dol Guldur.
