Part of the Gwent County History series, this work covers the history of Gwent from pre-historic times to the twentieth century. It deals with the Age of the Marcher Lordships, 1070-1536, from the coming of the Norman conquerors to the acts of Union between Wales and England, dealing with many aspects of the region's history.
Professor Ralph Griffiths is formerly Pro-vice-chancellor and Professor of Medieval History at the University of Wales, Swansea. He has had a long and distinguished career as an historian and member of the Board of Celtic Studies, and has recently published The Short Oxford History of the British Isles: 14th and 15th centuries for OUP. The Contributors of the Gwent volume include academics, county archivists and retired scholars.
