"The Greatest Sci Fi Novel Ever Written"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Dune is the greatest Science Fiction novel ever written. It has action, romance, political intrigue and more. It's set in a very well realized universe, and the characters are believable and, for the most part, either likable, or utter bastards who are so well written you can't help but admire them. Or both, in some cases.

I first read Dune when I was 12, and, to be honest, I think most of it went over my head. Still, I loved it. Every year since then, I've read it once a year, at least. Each time I read it, I notice something else, get more out of it, enjoy it even more. Last year, my copy fell apart, so I had to buy it again. Which brings me to now.

I decided to get this copy, which includes the first two sequels, as it wasn't much more expensive than just ‘Dune’ on it's own. I can't really say much more about it without revealing some important spoilers, and so I'm going to wrap up the review here.

So, all I can say to you now is “Read Dune. You won't regret it.”

I brought this for my husband who loved the 1st of the trilogy. He could not stop reading it! It was good to see that he enjoyed reading this as he is a hard one to buy books for. A great buy and well worth every cent.

Description

Herbert's evocative, epic tales are set on the desert planet Arrakis, the focus for a complex political and military struggle with galaxy-wide repercussions. Arrakis is the source of spice, a mind enhancing drug which makes interstellar travel possible; it is the most valuable substance in the galaxy. When Duke Atreides and his family take up court there, they fall into a trap set by the Duke's bitter rival, Baron Harkonnen. The Duke is poisoned, but his wife and her son Paul escape to the vast and arid deserts of Arrakis, which have given the planet its nickname of Dune. Paul and his mother join the Fremen, the Arrakis natives, ho have learnt to live in this harsh and complex ecosystem. But learning to survive is not enough - Paul's destiny was mapped out long ago and his mother is committed to seeing it fulfilled.
