Description

Excerpt from The Gospel Visitor, 1869, Vol. 19: A Monthly Publication Devoted to the Exhibition and Defence of Gospel Principles and Gospel Practice, in Their Primitive Purity and Simplicity, in Order to Promote Christian Union, Brotherly Love, and Universal Charity The word likeness we understand to mean similarity, or resemblance. Now there may be a marked re semblance between things which are invisible, or which have no visi ble shape - for instance - persons may be similar in mind in disposi tion or in their habits - none of which things are visible of them selves, but it is only the effects which we see. Hence as God is a Spirit, man was created with a spirit; as God is immortal, man was con stituted immortal; as God is holy, man was also created holy. Hence we see the points in which man was created in the likeness of God. Now the term image, cannot prop e'rly be applied to any object, only as descriptive of its form or shape, and hence we conclude that man was not only created immortal and holy, like God - but that he was also created with the same form and shape. But it may be objected, that God has any form or shape. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
