John Carter returns to Mars, only to find himself in the Valley Dor, which is the afterlife on Barsoom, and it's a place from which no one escapes. Of course, John Carter is not no one, so the Therns are in for a battle if they think he's going to let anything stand between him and his love, Dejah Thoris.

His work influenced so many people, it would be impossible to name them all, but the list includes James Cameron, Ray Bradbury, Robert A. Heinlein, Michael Crichton, Carl Sagan, George Lucas, Jack Vance, and others.
