"An urgently needed book"
5 stars"

This book comes as a response to the growing threat posed by the irrationalism that exists at the heart of every religion. Dawkins while being humorous and bold, looks at the damage done by religion. How it cripples minds and hinders clear thinking. How it harms people and argues that it should be considered as a form of child abuse when children are indoctrinated in religion and not given a real education.

This book and other books that have recently come out are highly important and should help to remind those of us who live in modern societies of our values. Freedom of speech and expression, sexual equality and a disdain for the subjugation of women and children by mysoginistic barbaric ideologies, science, rationality and a search for truth.

I highly recommend that you buy and read this book along with Carl Sagan's “The Demon Haunted World – Science as a Candle in the Dark”. These books are highly important in a society where religion is still worryingly visable, vocal and threatening.

"Is it possible for you to be right while millions are wrong?"
5 stars"

This was the question I was trying to answer when I bought this book. How can millions of people believe in something that logically cannot be true.

Like many other readers I had religion pushed down my throat from an early age and like them I always asked ‘why’ to which nobody could give a meaningful and logical answer.

Personally, I see no benefit to society of religion. It does nothing but split families and societies apart for no other purposes than supporting a minority in power.

So yes this book took every argument put forward by religious fundamentalists and took them apart. On finishing I was much more certain that I was right and so many others are idiots.

"A magnificent and lucid book "
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Dawkins goes for the jugular and takes on all religon showing just how silly belief in a supernatural being really is.

In these times of the muslim world vs the christian western world and christian fundamentalists gaining ever more influence in the USA a reassessment of just what religion is all about is timely.

Dawkins writes in a friendly manner but does not hesitate to question the readers attitudes.

Even a truly religious reader will at least come away asking questions of themself and their faith.

The book is a testament to rationalism and free thinking.

Description

"A powerful argument for how to think about the place of religion in the modern world. It's going to be a classic." -- Seed Magazine

"The God Delusion" caused a sensation when it was published in 2006. Within weeks it became the most hotly debated topic, with Dawkins himself branded as either saint or sinner for presenting his hard-hitting, impassioned rebuttal of religion of all types. His argument could hardly be more topical. While Europe is becoming increasingly secularized, the rise of religious fundamentalism, whether in the Middle East or Middle America, is dramatically and dangerously dividing opinion around the world. In America, and elsewhere, a vigorous dispute between 'intelligent design' and Darwinism is seriously undermining and restricting the teaching of science. In many countries religious dogma from medieval times still serves to abuse basic human rights such as women's and gay rights. And all from a belief in a God whose existence lacks evidence of any kind. Dawkins attacks God in all his forms. He eviscerates the major arguments for religion and demonstrates the supreme improbability of a supreme being. He shows how religion fuels war, foments bigotry and abuses children. "The God Delusion" is a brilliantly argued, fascinating polemic that will be required reading for anyone interested in this most emotional and important subject.

"If I had to identify Dawkins's cardinal virtues, I would say that he is brilliant, articulate, impassioned, and impolite . . .The God Delusion is a fine and significant book." (The San Francisco Chronicle )

"A particularly comprehensive case against religion. Everyone should read it. Atheists will love Mr. Dawkins's incisive logic and rapier wit, and theists will find few better tests of the robustness of their faith." --Economist
