(The Garden of the Mind...five gardens of poetical interlude is a selection of 100 contemporary poems by new Canadian poetess Susan M. Dudzinski, Dipl.B.. Her original poetry is charged with imagery and emotion, with her muse being all things philosophical. The eclectic subject matter offers up the seemingly prosaic aspects of live, only to reveal their more complex sides, truly reflecting the wide-ranging ruminations of the mind. Carefully selecting words, she engages with variation; solemnly paying homage to universal truths like love and hope, and then breaks away to spin a wholesome tale filled with fictional characters, action and lore. The book is divided into five sections, or "gardens"- Free Flowing, Lyrical, Menagerie, Whimsical, and Japanese - which takes the reader on a journey where words find their roots in the everyday experience and observation. The majority of her work is in free verse or a style of rhythmic rhyme unique in design; but in the final garden, the haiku and tanka formats are explored. All of her poems showcase a flair for sculpting out sentiment, sometimes borrowing from the French language to express a better meaning. In the Free Flowing Garden, the poem "perfect stranger," reiterates...supplying a place/to hang/that tattered hat/when you thought/the hat stand was gone...confirming the universal experience of finding a friend when it seemed all was lost. In the Lyrical Garden, the poem "Life Found," didactically reveals that all-important discovery...No secrets, no mystery./All moving in a predetermined line/on that treadmill called Destiny. And, in the Menagerie Garden she amuses us with a nameless character in "He the Man," ...Chiming for himself, thereservist/virtuoso, guitarist/cut off from his own melody...revealing a man possessed of a way of being that rings ironic. And, the storytelling and the revelries continue... Enter the garden of the mind to discover and explore!)
