Description

Excerpt from The Fight for Democracy Attack on all the fortresses of power, privilege and property in politics, industry and society. Democracy is not inevitable. It will not come of its own accord. It will have to be fought for and won. And in order that the fight may be conducted with success it is necessary to know the forces and the tactics of the enemy. With this object in view I have endeavoured to provide a survey of the battlefield, showing the various forces of capitalism, conservatism, militarism, imperialism, protectionism, bureaucracy, with their intellectual and spiritual allies and mercenaries, and to indicate the most advantageous methods of attack ing these enemies of the people. The fuller survey of the situation is contained in a volume which will appear this autumn under the title of Democracy After the War (to be published by Messrs. Allen and Unwin). This booklet contains the last section of that book. If its exposition is not always simple, I would plead in extenuation that the issues involved are them selves complex, and that the enemies of democracy rely upon this very complexity to confuse the mind.
