His reckoning was accurate the sudden death of young Charles Keller, the candidate upon whose election the government had at first determined, had cast the whole electorate of Arcis into a state of profound per turbation. Fishing in that troubled water, Monsieur Maxime de Trailles succeeded in hooking a candidate who is recommended by two very distinct varieties of merit and fitness.
