In this book are gathered some of my memories along with those of other people, plus some recorded facts of the more important occurrences of the two decades of the 1920s and 30s between two World Wars to show what was happening in the wider world outside our small village. Many of the recorded facts were to affect all our lives greatly in the following decade. Even fifty and sixty years on, repercussions of the time are still with us and affect many people in the view they take of present day events. The memories I write are of ordinary people who had to live their lives in the light of decisions taken by politicians, scientists and inventors of the time whose ideas affected everybody. This is a glimpse back at life as we knew it, with many happy memories to balance the scale. A childhood of freedom in a country area in the south of Britain with quiet roads, open spaces, with seaside holidays in Norfolk and the West Country.
Gwendoline Page was born in Folkestone, Kent and brought up from the age of 3 in the small village of Boreham Wood, Herts.
