Description

"The Cecchetti Legacy" provides a more detailed account of the Cecchetti Method than has hitherto been available. Based largely on Ann Hutchinson Guest's notations from the 1950's and 60's, this is a complete record of all of the enchainements recorded in the manuals including some, which although not 'original', reflect important principles of the Method. This book will be of great use to anyone making an in-depth study of Cecchetti's enchainements as well as those interested in a more general study of their style and technique. It contains an extensive, discursive analysis of the Cecchetti style and technique using word descriptions and Labanotation examples. In addition all of the exercises and enchainements are notated fully in Labanotation, providing a detailed account including some alternative versions taught by early teachers of the work.

Author Biography

Embarking on ballet training as an adult, Ann Hutchinson Guest initially modern dance trained, sought teachers able to explain clearly the details needed in classical training. It was in classes taught by Margaret Craske that she first encountered and was captivated by the Cecchetti Method. During subsequent study as a member of the Cecchetti Council of America and later in London, she studied under first generation Cecchetti teachers. As an experienced dance notator, from the start she recorded in Labanotation the exercises and sequences, being careful to include the details when different versions were met. Toby Bennett is a Senior Lecturer in Dance at Roehampton University, London. Having come to dance whilst studying Biology at Nottingham University he trained in ballet with various Cecchetti teachers and at the Ballet Rambert School. After a performing career in Belgium, he returned to London and began to teach in higher education. He holds the Enrico Cecchetti Final Diploma and is a keen English step clog dancer.
