If you like Midsomer Murders you should enjoy this series with its quirky characters.
Love the Brokenwood series; the scenery, the town, the residents, the sense of humour and the community – I feel so at home that it reminds me of my town, although I am glad my neighbours are not so murderous. The same interesting characters keep on appearing. Issues with the latest series might be the recycling of earlier characters in a way that is inconsistent. Like the explanation of Jared's absence seems an afterthought (and lame), and why is Nicki Stone, who inherited a fortune in the first series, now stealing credit cards. Apart from that, this stands as my favourite who-dunnit series, with that final all-clicking-together explanation at the end, done in a way that is smoother to most of the others. I am always still left guessing until the end – which is a good thing.
We love it
Brokenwood: Population 5000 and declining slowly – one by one or, two
by two depending on the murder rate that week.
In Brokenwood, an early morning mist will often give way to a glorious day. As
far as towns go its bucolic, pastoral yet curious. All-in-all, Brokenwood is
a pretty nice place to live if you watch your back and sleep with one eye
open.
Its a thriving community and diverse enough to always be throwing up
surprises like the growing gay and lesbian community the amateur dramatic
group – the covert drug manufacturers the refugees. This isnt a town
with a clichéd, small town demographic. Its complex, colourful and
lively.
