"A nearly true story of WW2"

Purchased on Mighty Ape

An excellent story of how a newly arrived battalion of mostly British troops manage to gain the upper hand over their Japanese captors in a railway construction camp in the thick jungle of northwest Burma.

The conditions the prisoners had to endure are understated to make the movie watchable. The bridge gets built (for the benefit of the workers) without the Japanese realising that this is the case. The ending is catastrophic, with the obligatory big explosion!

Description

When British P.O.W.s build a vital railway bridge in enemy-occupied Burma, Allied commandos are assigned to destroy it in David Lean's epic World War II adventure The Bridge On The River Kwai

Spectacularly produced, The Bridge On The River Kwai captured the imagination of the public and won seven 1957 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Alec Guinness), and Best Director. Even its theme song, an old WWI whistling tune, the “Colonel Bogey March,” became a massive wordwide hit. The Bridge On The River Kwai continues today as one of the most memorable cinematic experiences of all time.

Best Picture Oscar Winner 1957.
Best Picture BAFTA Winner 1957.
Best Picture (Drama) Golden Globe Winner 1957.

Special Features:

Isolated track of Malcolm Arnold's music score
“Building The Bridge” sabotage trivia
“Maps and Military strategy”
