I really enjoyed the research, and history of neuroplasticity, that was represented in this book. However, the author has merely collected the works of others in one place and his own lens or narrative adds very little. I'm not sure why he is there making money off their work… There is one anecdote of his own about psychoanalysis, but it wasn't captured well enough and suggests a therapy timeline of multiple years that to me emphasises the futility of certain therapies (no psychotherapy should take that long, especially for such a mundane issue! Seems like a moneygrab!) I also found he is far too forgiving of the shortcomings of Freud. His idolisation of him reads very clearly throughout the book. And while Freud may have contributed much to how we have come to understand the brain and mind today… He was still a misogynist and plucked many a bizarre theory seemingly out of nowhere… Too much stock has been put in his every word. I found it grating.
