I didn’t expect much from this, and boy was I wrong to approach it that way. I came from being a bit of an Awkwafina and Zazie Beetz fan position, but I learned Sam Rockwell has undiscovered talents in his voice work, and is not the annoying clown he plays in the Iron Man movies.
This slick, family-friendly hiest movie with misfits is humour from start to go. Clever, with that difficult dual level kids will love but adults get a second appreciation for. It’s got action, intruige, and although the Big Reveal is predictable enough that’s not why we’re here: to see people (well, animals…) not that different from us willing to do everything for the people important to them.
If that’s not a message we can’t all get behind, I dunno what is.
