Author Biography

Theresia van den Berg was born in Amsterdam in 1927, the eldest of seven children. She grew up during the war within the care of a loving family and was educated in a strict Roman Catholic College for girls. She studied singing with Alphons Franken and became a member of an amateur Opera ensemble. After her marriage she moved to Indonesia, where she resided in Djakarta during the politically restless years of 1947 - 1950 and where her first child was born. In January 1951 she migrated with her first husband and their two year old daughter to Australia where she continued her studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. She studied English and Art and after several years commenced painting classes at her studio in Kurrajong Heights, where she taught for many years. Her hobbies include sculpture and ceramic art. Later in life she became interested in the history of the Christian Religion and studied this interesting subject for many years. During that time she commenced writing her first book "Celestial Deceptions," which was published in 2008. An ardent advocate for gay rights and voluntary euthanasia she has openly voiced her support for these important issues to the present day Members of the Tasmanian Parliament and their colleagues in Canberra. Advanced macular degeneration has made writing and reading more difficult for her. Although still interested in art, literature and social issues, she presently lives a less demanding lifestyle. Together with her husband she resides in the hills near Hobart, in the beautiful State of Tasmania.
