Tenebrae
Italian horror stylist, Dario Argento directs this inventive, suspense thriller about Peter Neal, (Anthony Franciosa), an American mystery novelist who comes to Rome to promote his latest release.
Soon after his arrival, a bizarre sequence of shocking homicides occur which strangely resemble the murders in his book. The police are stunned and confused, so Neal decides to take charge of an investigation with the help of his agent (John Saxon) and his staff.
“TENEBRAE” showcases Argento’s notorious operatic violence – and includes the bloodiest axe murder in screen history.
Argento was inspired to write “TENEBRAE” (which means “darkness” in Latin) when, shortly after John Lennon’s murder, he himself was stalked by a deranged SUSPIRIA fan who threatened to kill him.
“TENEBRAE” is presented here for the first time UNCUT, UNCENSORED and in WIDESCREEN.
This DVD also includes the 60 minute documentary “An Eye For Horror” which documents Argento's career and features interviews with Dario Argento, John Carpenter, Alice Cooper and actresses Jessica Harper and Piper Laurie.
Critic Reviews:
- " Tenebre is a brilliant piece of self-reflexive cinema. " – Ed Gonzalez
- " Some outstanding murder set pieces fill a convoluted narrative, but that's par for the course for a giallo, isn't it? " – Trace Thurman
- " Tenebre is essential Argento: perhaps the auteur's clearest articulation of his own psychological and stylistic obsessions, but with a more critical eye. " – Stephanie Monohan
