Description

Translation into Te Reo Māori (the Māori language) of the world-famous diary kept by the Jewish Dutch teenager Ann Frank during the Nazi German occupation of the Netherlands during the Second World War. After two years of hiding from the Germans in a secret annexe in Amsterdam eloping sexuality, Anne and her family were discovered and deported to Westerbork Camp (in the Netherlands) and Auschwitz (in Poland). Anne died of typhus when15 years old, in Bergen-Belsen Camp. The two years of diary entries give an intimate account of Anne's hopes, fears, relationships, developing sexuality, blossoming young love, intellectual maturing and sense of Jewish identity. Te Haumihiata Mason is New Zealand's premier translator.

Author Biography:

Born 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany; moved with family to Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 1933; hid with family and friends in a secret annexe in Amsterdam from July 1942 till discovered in August 1944; died 1945 in Bergen-Belsen camp, Germany.
