From Treasure Isle to Ariwa, a6er many historical releases, the original DJ
U-Roy has re-united with the Ariwa produc@on team to record and release a new
studio album. 1991 saw U-Roys debut Ariwa recording album release True Born
African. This was the record that re-ignited the original DJ's career a6er a
10 year lull. Having kicked off his career on the legendary Treasure Isle label
with 3 hits in the top ten in 1970 produced by Duke Reid, U-Roy went onto
record and release the classic Version Galore D.J. Reggae LP.
U-Roy was an exci@ng new phenomenon. A phenomenon that started the talkers and
rappers…the age of the M.Cs and D.J.s had begun within Reggae music
which would see the likes of I-Roy, Dillinger, King S@X rise up and command the
microphone.
Talking Roots is the new broadcast from one of the Kings of D.J Reggae. URoy
broadcasts social commentary affairs on subjects featured on tracks like
Repatria@on with Donald Trump's immigra@on policy the subject of said
track. URoy is like a BBC reporter, cleverly telling the news without agreeing
or disagreeing. BiXer Nut explores the powers of the biXer cola nut, the
original sexual health weapon from Africa! and Teacher Morris reflects on
school boy roman@c fantasy touching on some of the mid- 1970s glorious
moments. CD version of this release features the track Tide Is High. U-Roy
will be on tour in 2018.
