Description

SET IN A UNIVERITY HOSPITAL AND BEYOND A 1940's schoolgirl, Alexandra Brandon, starts to question the role of women in society. Qualifying in the male dominated medical profession of the 'fifties' she quickly learns of the difficulties when marriage and desire for motherhood conflict with her ambitions. Her turbulent life as a consequence is a mixture of love duty and rebellion, compounded by meeting with ambitious Doctor David Freer who seeks to take advantage when she is at her most vulnerable. A higher authority intervenes and ruthlessly separates them. It is then then that David Freer realises his feelings were more profound, and he seeks to retrieve the situation, but it is too late. Achance medical situation eventually re-unites them and happiness appears possible, but an unexpected event leads on to disastrous consequences forcing Alexandra to doubt their relationship but this time David very publicly reveals his true feelings. The price is high for this happiness. "No-one gets the four aces in life," David concludes.
