Nine musicians, including Floating Points, Dan Snaith of Caribou, Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys and Simian Mobile Disco's James Shaw, have collaborated on a performance of Frank McCarty's 1973 score Tactus Tempus.
The original version was conceived and performed by McCarty’s group BIOME on 5 EMS Synthi synthesizers.
The group of musicians formed spontaneously, gathering for two new performances of the score during collective down time in London in July 2016 at Joe Goddard’s basement studio. Each player on the record used a separate synthesizer or modular synthesizer system while the original slides from McCarty’s work were projected on the wall. The ensemble recorded two versions of the piece, each one recorded live in one 15– minute take: one version is tonal the other is noises and impulses.
