Sylvester has everything an entertaining book should have – suspense, misunderstanding, outrage, humour, love…Georgette Heyer is never less than a great read and this is one of my personal favourites. Sylvester, a Duke, coolly decides that it's time to marry, and his cold-blooded review of the possible candidates for his wife horrifies his invalid mother. Fortunately, fate intervenes and the lively and intelligent Phoebe is thrust into Sylvester's life. She has written a book, making Sylvester the villain and when the book is published, it becomes a great success. The plot thickens, the leading characters become entangled, and you should read the book to find out what happens next!

Description

Endowed with rank, wealth and elegance, Sylvester, Duke of Salford, posts into Wiltshire to discover if the Hon Phoebe Marlowe will meet his exacting requirements for a bride. If he does not expect to meet a tongue-tied stripling wanting both manners and conduct, then he is intrigued indeed when his visit causes Phoebe to flee her home. They meet again on the road to London, where her carriage has come to grief in the snow. Yet Phoebe, already caught in one 'imbroglio', now knows she soon could be well deep in another.

Author Biography

Author of over fifty books, Georgette Heyer is the best-known and best-loved of all historical novelists, who made the Regency period her own. Her first novel, The Black Moth, published in 1921, was written at the age of fifteen to amuse her convalescent brother; her last was My Lord John. Although most famous for her historical novels, she also wrote eleven detective stories. Georgette Heyer died in 1974 at the age of seventy-one.
