"Now with 75% more averageness"
1 stars"

Let me start by clarifying that I've been avoiding purchasing newly released games Games sites on release day because of a lack of mention as to whether or not they require STEAM (I've been having to do the research manually but i hope Mighty Ape in particular will be looking into this in the Future as i hold them in high regard as a retailer).

Its a good job I didn't pre-order because as it happens it DOES require STEAM.

So i found someone who had bought a copy and thieved their PC for a decent whack.

My impressions are of a game that has been greatly scaled back to accommodate Console gaming and casual RTS fans. The reason that Supreme commander has stood out for me was the fact that it was so much bigger and more in depth than other RTS's on the market. Sure it still has some cool units (i actually find some of them a bit too over the top and almost cartoony compared to the war machine-esq look of the old units) but the maps are far too small in comparison to Supcom and the Economy no longer has the profound impact it did in the original. I didn't have the heart to play for much longer than an hour or so before i hung up my mouse. Supreme Commander has been one of my (and my friends) Favorite RTS games thanks mainly due to its massive scale, scope and varied strategies which once could utilise in order to win. The Battles in Supcom2 seem to be smaller in scale with more emphasis on less units than squads and groups in the first. You cant use build ques as effectively anymore thanks to the fact that you can only build when you have the stored mass to do so (instead of factories churning out endless units with which to wage non stop war). The story mode is the only thing that seems to have remained from the previous game; by which i mean its just yawn worthy and poorly put together as the original games were.

The only thing i enjoyed was the new customization of the Commander unit who was far too vulnerable in the previous game and seldom saw combat for that reason.

All in all i feel cheated by GPG and would have expected a bloke like Chris Taylor (of Total Annihilation and Supreme commander fame) to have been able to BUILD on the idea of grand warfare on an epic scale. Instead we seem to have been given more of a Command and conquer clone with Supreme commander's strategic zoom strapped on.

"Over 4GB download required to play"
1 stars"

After creating a Steam account you then discover the the game files on the DVD do not work! You have to download the entire game which is over 4GB! I'm not too sure why they are selling the DVD at all as the only useful component is the serial key! Even the Steam program needs to be updated when installed. Unless you don't care about downloading over 4GB I'd stay well clear of this product.

"An improvement from the first but the story line needs work."
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

After facing issues with Steam, not to mention 2GB to download plus had to find a work around to launch the game as the steam.exe didn't work.

Once all was up and running:

The graphics is very tidy, high level of detail on all buildings, units and world environment. Bonus for compatibility with low end graphics cards.

Multiplayer is great and a lot of fun, will have you gaming or hours.

Single player needs major work, storyline is laughable but easy to play through if you are new to the game.

All in all, not a bad game but wouldn't pay $89 again plus will stay clear of Steam dependent games in future.

"Huge download required!"
1 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

There is a multi-GB download on the release day you need before you can even play the game! My net connection can't cope with that. The install size from the DVD is only around 2 GB, so why did they do this??? After paying $90 for the game (pre-ordered), it's ridiculous to also have to download an enormous update! You might as well get the game straight from Steam and save $20. I'm hoping to send it back and get a refund.

"Where did it mention Steam requirement"
1 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Um feeling ripped off, not in a nasty way, but the system requirements mention nothing about the game being tied to Steam. Steam is the worst invention in the world, for chewing up bandwidth, I avoid it like the plague and buy the games direct from Mighty Ape.

This time I have purchased a DVD that makes me download the game from the internet anyway :(

And I am still yet to play the game.

"Good Game but not good Patches T_T"
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Be warned when you buy this game wherever you get it because the updates for it are HUGE but very quick.

up to 60GB it downloaded for the patches, I'm pretty sure of that.

Its a great game though going through the campaign at the moment.

"Always fun to play"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

If you are like me, you are interested in other peoples views on a product but not interested in reading a to find it out, therefore I will keep this short.

Played Sup Comm 2 for the past 4 days, it's in some ways a vast change from the original game but in my view most changes are an improvement. The graphics are a bit ho hum, but still adequate however the rendering is quick and smooth. I like the idea that you can do research to improve your units and how you only get to build what you can afford, and that there are some really cool faction specific units.

The AI can at times have difficulty with moving units through not so narrow gaps, but with the ability to fully customise your opponent you can make them go from mild to wild to suit your own skill level.

The Campaign is a bit lack luster to start with, you need to set the difficulty to hard to have any sense of fun, however the three different paths with in the game gives it depth. Still to complete it, but there are some really neat scenes and still a great deal of fun.

Overall, I give this a big thumbs up (70/100). The concept may be a little worn out but there are some really good changes which makes this worth while buying – especially of you enjoyed the first game. :)

"I like it but......"
2 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Its very different to the first two. I like the graphics. The unit cap is a bit restrained especially in the campaign. I was continually maxing out. I like the way the maps are built, would have preffered some more open ones as the units do strange things due to the choke points. Don't know about being dummed down.To me it was just totally revamped. I did enjoy playing it. My hard drive failed so had to replace it and here comes the but. The 4.5 gig updates needed from STEAM before you can play it.....not impressed. i will not be reinstalling it. i did send Square Enix an email about this and did get a reply back. I will be reinstalling Supcomfa and the black ops mod as that rules.

"A different game to the first but still great. "
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Supreme command is a fine successor to the first. This is not the game we new . This is more fast paced, with slightly smaller map's. This game is great as a fast paced multiplayer. However THIS IS NOT the same game as he first. So don't treat it as such if you want to get the best experience. Still well worth the effort for any rts and/or Sup Com fan.

"Just too clear things up"
4 stars"

These first two reviews are silly the box will say on it that it requires Steam too use, its usually in small print near the bottom left area, they don't put it in system requirements because system requirements are hardware requirements not software.

I would also like too point out that you dont download the game if you buy the DVD, you put the disc in and install it like any other game in the world, it installs the game into the steam folder, it does not download the game.

The great thing about this is once the game is activated on your steam account you can re download it on any computer you install steam on and log into your account with, this is excellent if you lose the disc or go to a friends house and want too play LAN but forget your disc's.

I also don't think a game should be given a one star rating just because it has a patch on day one, whats wrong with a game company providing fixes for bugs so quickly, id also like too point out that the game was released in the rest of the world first as always so day one here isn't day one for the game.

I have played the Demo and will be buying the full game soon, i can tell you that thankfully this game keeps a lot of what was great about Supreme Commander one, despite it having the Square Enix logo on it and not THQ :)

"Warning Steam account required"
1 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Beware you cannot play this game without a Steam account and downloading the very large patch which can take days and if you get disconnected for any reason the download winds back 25% so if you get disconnected below 25% you have to start all over. The game may be good but I am still unable to play even the single player game until the patch is complete.

"Best strategy game since C&C"
5 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

I thought it was going to be strange at first and that I was not going to be able to control my units to a necessary degree, I was amazed at the level of control that can be achieved, and the strategies that can be invoked are just beyond any other strategy game at this time

"For fans of Total Annihlation and the original"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Coming from original supreme commander to this at first I didn't like it, they have simplified the unit count considerably and changed the resource system just enough to cause you trouble. I also think the unit models are a bit of a step backwards looking less real and more cartoonish and colourful. I suspect designers have had the console market in mind for some of the changes.

However once I adjusted to the changes and started to get the hang of things I started to really enjoy this game, the new experimental units are fun and varied, and the research system means you have to focus on a strategy from the start to do well. Overall a worthy sequel

"Top notch game"
5 stars"

Fun and fast paced while still remaining faithful to the RTS genre, something that most games calling themselves ‘RTS's’ these days don't. Love the research mechanism. My only real complaint is that the game lacks a dedicated scout unit that can be produced early, requiring small teams of tanks or aircraft to perform the role instead. With the new DLC and the economy rethink introduced in the latest patch, a great game just got even better. I highly recommend this game, particularly now; two thumbs up, way up.

"A good update to an old favourite"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

After the previous Supcom offerings, I knew what a CPU hog this game could be. Another review on a reputable games site, stated that the specs had been rehashed and that it was a lot easier to use.

This indeed proves to be the case. I am still playing the campaign and am finding it very entertaining and easy to follow. The AI is not as challaging as it could be and once you have cracked the formula, is not hard to beat. But I have found in previous build/gather/fight type games that the AI can be frustratingly difficult at times. This not the case with this game and I think it is better for it. If you want really challenging, you could always go multiplayer, but I haven't tried that yet.

An all round good strategy game, well worth a look for both fans of an newbies

"Not as good as the 1st one"
3 stars"

I got this game cos I liked the 1st one it was hard missions felt like it taken for ever to complete so hey why not get this one.

It took me less than a few days to complete and thats at 4 hours a day.. So really money worth (brand new) nah.. (better to get it when its a mighty ape deal lol go might ape)

It does have a interesting story line and leaves room for another. In saying this when I saw this game featured in armm E3 in the states or what ever you call it… They talked it up as saying it was going to be the bets of the best. Wrong.. And so im disappointed. But I did enjoy it with low expectations lol. And I played it again lol.

Ok as for stream accounts goes.. WTF I KNOW PEOPLE PIRATE AND ALL THAT STUFF. HOWEVER DO YOU THINK I WANT TO KEEP THE GAME FOREVER no… Buy trade sell and get another.. With stream it kinda ruins it.. And you wonder why people turn to the dark side for games.

"Fun - but not a worthy sequel to SupCom 1"
3 stars"

At the greatly reduced sale price this is an enjoyable 20–40 hrs of single player play. Disclaimer/bias – I greatly enjoy free form type RTS. This is that type of game, similar to SupCom 1 – a giant open map to build on However it appears to be greatly dumbed down: Reduced unit varieties. No hidden map expansions as in SupCom 1, which also had 4 levels of different progressively stronger units. However SupCom 2 has only one level. Though it does add a tech tree instead for each side that progressively strengthens and adds weapons/abilities to your units. Experimentals are usually at the outer edges of this tree. The story is a similar style as SupCom1. Skirmish mode adds a few more hours play. There are no real improvements in this game and some missing features. Eg the build progression is not easily apparent, there is no detailed unit description (you need to consult the manual or dont miss the description in the game when the unit first appears in the single player story). The game does provide a couple of new experimentals to play with. Some are powerful, some quirky. Veterancy is quite important, especially for experimentals to keep them alive.

"A game of Mixed Emotions."
2 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Supreme Commander 2 is a good looking game on first sighting, its easy to buy and seemingly easy to install. The first Word of warning i give is that it is DIRECTLY tied to steam, you HAVE to have an account and be prepared for a possible wait of 5+ days for it to work, as recently steam has decided to make the purchase of Retail games very difficult in accordance with Steam. Check all the requirements needed for the game to run before you purchase and have above minimum as it is a very graphics heavy game. Apart from the messing around the game has shown to be quite entertaining for the first few hours, but can be a disappointment to previous fans of the previous title in the Supreme Commander Series.

"Very enjoyable RTS" Purchased on Mighty Ape

The game has it all, the research tech tree is brilliant except that it can take a while to unlock the great experimental units. The gigantic maps makes this game amazing to play and creates many types of strategies for you to enjoy.

"Huge multi front battles"

This is a good game with the idea of it but comparing it to the other it falls behind. They have simplifyed it to much.
