"Ticks along quite nicely"
3 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

It's no Max Payne, both in terms of graphics and storyline, but Strangehold really is almost as much fun, just in a slightly different way.

Graphically the game is a little tired but that is well compensated for in terms of gameplay. There is (tequila time) aka “bullet time” for Africa and there is a great “close up sniper” feature that never failed to crack me up. Additionally you are able to directly or indirectly destroy a fairly large chunk of the environment that you are fighting in, so don't hide behind any walls for too long, they will disintegrate quite rapidly when taking enemy fire.

Speaking of enemy, the only aspect of gameplay I found a little disappointing was Villain AI – I like my bad guys to be a bit more proactive when defending themselves. But you could do a hell of a lot worse for 3rd person shooter (and I have – remember “the club”?). For a bargain basement title it's worth adding to your collection.

"Swinging from chandeliers with a gun has never been so much fun"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

Stranglehold excells in environmental interaction – running up stair bannisters, jumping off walls, blazing away on street cart and even swinging from chandeliers. Without those features this would be a fairly pedestrian 3rd person shooter – but with them it revitalises the tired slow-motion shoot-out genre and makes for light frothy fun. The John Woo influence is incredibly strong, which is alternately hilarious and tiresome (the occasionally ocerwrought plot doesn't really fit with the over the top kill-count). Expect doves everywhere!

"Cheap but NOT Nasty"
5 stars"

I reccomend everyone to go out and buy this game it is cheap like $50 – $60 and its awesome.. Fight John Woo Style. You can dive and shoot, slide and shoot, skid and shoot its awesome and a handful of fun. Most cheap games are not very good at all but this is an awesome game and recommended for everyone to buy it.

Awesome game 4.5/5

"Grabs you by the throat."
4 stars"

Not usually one for first person shooters, I thought I'd give this one a look. An hour later, I managed to put it down, so much for 5 min try. Stranglehold, grabbed me by the throat and pulled me in, had me doing just one more level, after level :)

I found the slow motion an interesting touch, haven't played any past games with it in, but found it easy to get used to.

Great amount of action, giving greater rewards for doing fancy moves while blowing a hole in the forehead of the foe.

Very playable.

"Amazing... Just Amazing"
5 stars"

I bought this game while in Australia, and had to wait a week to play it.

And well worth wait.

Although extremely short, with a small 7 stages… but pretty long. This game is just… amazing to play. A chinese cop, with amazing agility smashing his way with Massive Destruction through Chicago and Hong Kong, blasting everyone with dual pistols, shotguns, machine guns and rocket launchers.

John Woo's Stranglehold has easily lived upto its expectations. And whats better than having HardBoiled's original Chow Yun Fat to play the part of Tequila.

A must buy for PS3 and 360.

Description

Acclaimed action director John Woo presents Stranglehold, a stunning 3rd-person action adventure videogame for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. A “spiritual sequel” to Woo’s action masterpiece, “Hard Boiled,” Stranglehold redefines the action gaming experience with its acrobatic gunplay, thrilling cinematography, frenetic combat and incredible Massive Destructibility (Massive D). Chow Yun-Fat reprises his signature role as Inspector Tequila, pitting gamers as a take no-prisoners cop waging a personal war with Hong Kong crime lords.
