Contracting the bubonic plague would be preferable to watching ST:D. One must wonder if this show was actually written by people for entertainment, or as a form of torture. I suspect the latter to be true.

At last we have another Star Trek show. Having been a Trekkie since the days of the original series I’ve seen a lot of commonalities amongst each series. Firstly each series has had some top notch writers and stories. Each series has had stories that have been poorly written. Each series has its fans that can see no wrong with that particular vision and each have those who believe the series can do no wrong.

Discovery, like all everything else has its good and bad points. It’s a more mature themed show along the lines of Deep Space Nine. Like all of the Star Trek shows, I love them, warts and all. Looking forward to the release of season two.

Description

This sci-fi series follows the voyages of Starfleet on their quest to explore new planets and new life forms.

Set 10 years before the events of “Star Trek: The Original Series,” the show sees the Klingons waging war against the United Federation of Planets, with starship Discovery being the most important weapon on the Federation's side. Science Specialist Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) must learn that to truly understand all things alien, first she must understand herself.

Notable guest stars include Michelle Yeoh and Rainn Wilson.

Critics Reviews for Star Trek Discovery: Season 1

  • “Star Trek has always marvelled at the eccentricities, habits, and feelings of ordinary people, which persist even in a high-tech future; these glimpses of individuality suggest that humanity has become comfortable in its own skin.” – Josh Rothman, New Yorker
  • “Happily Star Trek: Discovery strikes a balance between what diehard Trekkies love about Roddenberry's universe and what J.J. Abrams injected into its theatrical resurrection.” – Melanie McFarland, Salon.com
  • “While Discovery is fundamentally quite different from much of the Trek that's come before, its engagement with the franchise, and willingness to both celebrate and examine its core values, keep it true to that spirit.” – Liz Shannon Miller, indieWire
  • “If I had any criticism of what is after all a giant gift horse, it would be that a certain lightness is missing from the initial episodes. This is remedied in the third, even as things get weird and spooky, so I am good. Live long and prosper.” – Robert Lloyd, Los Angeles Times
