The next day in Los Angeles, a perpetually unlucky and pathetic man is holed up in a motel after being bumped from his flight to Miami the day before. Horrified, he watches the news of the terrible crash, knowing he was very nearly on that flight. Even more horrifying, though, is what appears on the right-hand corner of the TV screen: his own face, with the caption: Larry Jones Sole Survivor What follows is a cross-country adventure and cast of characters that includes an obnoxious adult toy executive, an ex-prostitute, a slimy personal injury attorney, a philandering wife, and poor Larry himself.
