Description

We know where the sun sleeps at night... it is where the land ends and there is nothing but sea; where the world ends and there is the stairway to eternity... from its summit, holy men and great men can enter into the eternal life. Egypt 2600bc. As the dawn of a new era looms upon the Egyptian civilisation, the ever-growing interest in the wider world and the theology of the after life, takes the pharaohs of the time on a historical expedition - an expedition to find the floating white pyramid behind which the sun god, Ra, rests and on which the design of all Egyptian Pyramids is based. Stairway to Eternity captures the atmosphere of ancient Egypt perfectly; blending the historical figures of the pharaohs Djoser, Snefru and Cheops with the fictional yet realistic characters who make up their people. Lucas skilfully tells the story of their travels west, to the holy islands thought to be the guardians of Ra's darkness - the islands that now form the present-day Canary Islands. John Lucas was born in 1947 in Las Palmas, Canary Islands, the son of British parents. He was educated at Pangbourne Naval College in Berkshire, England. He has worked in the travel industry for the last forty years in the Canary Islands. He is married with three children.
