Alanna: The First Adventure
“From now on I’m Alan of Trebond, the younger twin. I’ll be a
knight.”
In a time when girls are forbidden to be warriors, Alanna of Trebond wants
nothing more than to be a knight of the realm of Tortall. So she finds a way to
switch places with her twin brother, Thom. Disguised as a boy, Alanna begins her
training as a page at the palace of King Roald. But the road to knighthood, as
she discovers, is not an easy one. Alanna must master weapons, combat, and
magic, as well as polite behavior, her temper, and even her own heart. Filled
with swords and sorcery, adventure and intrigue, good and evil,
Alanna’s first adventure begins—one that will lead to the fulfillment of
her dreams and make her a legend in the land.
“Still a classic of YA literature, this first novel by Tamora Pierce is
still enchanting readers over twenty-five years after its publication.”

desert dwellers’ grave fear of the foreign woman warrior..
Lioness Rampant

Trebond is not sure what to do next. Perhaps being a knight errant is not all
that Alanna needs…But Alanna must push her uncertainty aside when a new
challenge arises. She must recover the Dominion Jewel, a legendary gem with
enormous power for good – but only in the right hands. And she must work
quickly. Tortall is in great danger, and Alanna's archenemy, Duke Roger, is
back – and more powerful than ever. In this final book of the Song of the

Author Biography
Tamora Pierce was born in South Connellsville, Pennsylvania and her parents
were originally going to call her Tamara, but the nurse who filled out her birth
certificate had never heard of that name before and accidentally misspelled it.
However, Tamora likes her name and in case you're wondering how to pronounce it,
it sounds just like camera. She was a passionate reader from an early age,
devouring encyclopaedias, Dr Seuss books and J.R.R. Tolkien. Writing helped
Tamora get through her parents' divorce and in her junior year at college she
sold her first story and went on to publish The Song of the Lioness, originally
with adult readers in mind, but found success when she turned it into a quartet
for teenagers. The rest, as they say, is history! Tamora lives in New York with
her husband.
