Star in the Dust (also released as Law Man) is a 1956 American western film made by Universal-International and starring John Agar, Mamie Van Doren, and Richard Boone.
In the western town of Gunlock, Sheriff Bill Jorden (John Agar, Sands of Iwo Jima) prepares to hang Sam Hall (Richard Boone, Big Jake) for murder and cattle-stealing. But there is much more to this impending execution than meets the eye – as disgruntled townsfolk raise opinions against the accused and scheme to carry out their own particular brand of justice. With the clock ticking down, the farmers are intent on a lynching whilst Hall’s colleagues are fixing to set him free – it’s up to the sheriff to keep the town from coming apart at the seams. Based on the book Law Man and featuring a stellar support cast including Mamie Van Doren, Paul Fix, Leif Erickson, Harry Morgan and James Gleason, Star In The Dust also captures an early appearance of legendary star Clint Eastwood.
