"The real Godzilla."
5 stars"

An excellent return to form for the Japanese atomic monster. If you're not a fan of a ton of bureaucratic dialogue highlighting the ‘greater as a whole’ decision making system in Japan, then avoid. Anno's direction of Big G's scenes are both spooky and mesmerising. Awesome stuff.

"Japan vs Godzilla"
5 stars"

For people who don't know this film is in Japanese, so you'll be reading subtitles. But just because its not dubbed doesn't mean its a bad movie its far from bad. The film is well written and has amazing shots, and some great VFX shots of Godzilla 4th form. But if your expecting an action packed movie like the 2014 film you will be disappointed. You need to be a fan of Japanese culture and Godzilla to truly love the film.

Did not think it was spoken in Japanese and had to read English subtitles.

Shin Godzilla

From Hideaki Anno, the mind behind EVANGELION. The King of Monsters receives a terrifying resurgence.

It's a peaceful day in Japan when a strange fountain of water erupts in the bay, causing panic to spread among government officials. At first, they suspect only volcanic activity, but one young executive dares to wonder if it may be something different – something alive. His worst nightmare comes to life when a massive, gilled monster emerges from the deep and begins tearing through the city, leaving nothing but destruction in its wake.

As the government scrambles to save the citizens, a rag-tag team of volunteers cuts through a web of red tape to uncover the monster's weakness and its mysterious ties to a foreign superpower. But time is not on their side, and the greatest catastrophe to ever befall the world is about to evolve right before their very eyes.

Critic Reviews:

  • " What Shin Godzilla does offer is one major counter: Godzilla's real home is Japan, and anything else feels like a glitzy vacation. " – Clarisse Loughrey
  • " Thirty-one films and 63 years later, the monster has seldom looked better. The final shot will haunt your dreams. " – Tara Brady
  • " This enjoyable but dialogue-heavy addition to the Godzilla family takes aim at the inert, top-heavy bureaucracy of Japanese government. " – Wendy Ide
