"A Project of Passion"
5 stars"

Review by Linda on 26th October, 2016

I don't want you to think I am crazy but I would dare you to start this film differently than you ever have before. Fast forward to the credits on the film and read every one of them. When you do this, you will realize you are about to be blessed by a project that was made possible by the blood, sweat and tears of a young man that had a dream. It is obvious that the filmmaker put everything he had into making this movie. That in itself is so inspiring to everyone that has a dream. Brace yourself to be changed and to allow this film to touch you deep down in your soul. Shilo is a heart warming story set in a small Texas town. The primary message of the film is that it isn't how you start something, it is where you are headed and how you finish that is what matters most. This movie has so many significant messages about overcoming obstacles, doing the right thing and living a life with a solid belief system. These are all messages our families need in today's world. The characters slowly and gently pull you in and make you feel like they are part of your own family. Shilo reminded me of my big brother, who was my hero most of my young life because I could always count on him to protect me, no matter what. It had so many similarities to the way that I grew up that I not only got to enjoy the movie, I got to take a stroll down memory lane too. I loved the integrity of the story. It was based on a real place and the director made certain that the film encompassed the essence of small town life. This is a film that you can watch with every generation of your family and each person will be touched in a different way. It also proves to those enthralled in the Hollywood mentality that you can make a beautiful film with class and without inappropriate language and raw sex. I can not remember the last time I watched something that I was proud to ask my mother to watch with me. What I saw when I watched this film was a passionate filmmaker that is blessed with talents I did not know one person could embody. Edwin Nichols wrote a film that will move you to try to become a better person. It shows you how great we could all feel if we looked out for each other and how helping people will give you a purpose in life that blesses you beyond measure. The actors in the film are genuine and believable. Edwin Nichols, who plays Shilo, is extremely compelling as the small town drifter who can karate kick huge men across the room. The fight scenes are constructed with impeccable detail and leave you wanting more. There is a great chemistry between the main characters in the film. The friendship that develops between this drifter and a terminally ill boy is heart warming, with a beautiful innocence that the world is lacking today. The character development in the story line is really exquisite. The virtuous messages that resonate throughout the film are touching and the kind of messages that we should all want the younger generations of our families to hear and see. The setting of the camp the movie is based on is perfection! The rural areas pull you in and give you warm feelings of camp fires and honest living. Viewing this movie has left me satisfied, full of heart, thinking that the world is not quite as jaded as I previously though and wondering when this talented young man will be blessing us with another piece of work. I am so looking forward to witnessing the journey of Edwin Nichol's career and to see more projects that include his fresh attitude and outlook on life. This is an artist that is on my radar now and I will happily and expectantly keep an eye out for what is next. I heard the songs played throughout the movie and thought to myself how great the music made me feel. I am a person that music moves me in the depths of my soul. It was not until I read the credits that I realized the beautiful songs were written and performed by Edwin too. This music will grab you in an unbelievable way. Please be sure to pay special attention to the music because you will gain even more inspiration and joy from the messages communicated in the music. Edwin has a great voice that is soothing and comforting. I don't honestly think my review could do justice for what I experienced when watching the movie for the first time. I just have to say BRAVO Mr. Nichols. Your endless talents and vision are beautiful things that make this world a better place. You are an inspiration and have put together an amazing piece of art. It is obvious that you laid it all on the table and we are all better because of it. Please please keep it up and allow us all to go on your journey too. This film gets two thumbs up, A+++++++ and every other measure there might be for awesomeness!!! You MUST watch this movie and be sure your children see it too. Well done!
