"This movie is just too good to miss out on seeing"
5 stars"

This is one music doco/film you should not wait to see. This movie details the band from its early beginnings to where they are at in present day. It details the highs, the lows the funny and not so funny moments of this great Kiwi rock band who are true kiwi music icons. This film/doco is an autobiography (aswell as an emotional rollercoaster) chronicling the bands 24 year history in the music scene. Overall this doco/movie shows why Shihad is one of the great mainstays of the NZ rock scene. I felt like I got to know the band nay the family (I now consider the band as a family entity) through this documentary we got to hear about some of the pitfalls of touring when there are relationships involved, stories behind some of their songs,it opens your eyes to how much this band has gone through and how one joke can ruin opportunities. I give it 5 out of 5!

(Addition to the review to those who have not seen this movie who go out to the shows and buy the cds there is sooo much more to the band then what we see and hear as mentioned in the review there are high points and low points.)

"I don't trust the police and the government believe in Shihad"

Shihad Beautiful Machine dvd very informative look at the band from a bands perspective from the start to were they are now. The good times to the bad times the struggles touring the USA the pressures of being noticed by major record labels in the USA to the name change to Pacifier. It is produced really well the interviews of the whole band were done really laid back at their own homes it was really good to hear it from the bands perspective and the way they felt about how things were going. There is also some really good live footage of them on stage in the early years of Shihad. Being a long time fan of the boys I really enjoyed watching it I would recommend it to any one who loves good guitar riffs and great song lyrics. Bill

"An inspiring insight into the highs and lows of kiwi rock icons"

Great film, highly recommended. Discovered a heightened level of respect for a band I already looked up to. Dives very deep into the band's history and personal lives and seems as though no topic/question was off limits.

From beginning to end this docco grips you, even if you've never heard the music the story is raw, emotional and true. Shihad fans must see!!

"History never repeats-"
3 stars"

I just had to see this film. I purchased it some time ago. A film about Shihad- Well, this film should of been made years ago I think. Shihad have had a very up and down career, they have sold themselves to satan numerous times (but maybe only the once…) and have now over their musical career put out a long list of rather predictable records. I wish this documentary focused on the music more…as the band have aged, had families (or more sexual intercourse..) their music has not aged as well. Their most recent records sound more like 40 somethings trying to be in their mid 20s again. No thanks, do something interesting. I thought the first 3 Shihad albums were legendary yes I did. I thought they were maybe not the uniquest thing about, but they combined melody with heavyness. That melody and gelling has gone out the window since about 1999. I think The General Electric is an okay album, but its still very boring. Its like techno meets heavy rock…not my cup of tea. Why couldn't they just keep doing original more inventive songs- They used to experiment (see the song Debs night out) with feed back over tracks and have good up and down parts to their songs. Now its just one big scream fest over a load of noisy instruments. Jon too good hasn't written a really great song since that Interconnector one they did back in 98. The actual DVD has some interesting things, but its kind of just the band blowing their egos up their own chimneys. Nothing really interesting. Their manager died of a drug overdose (such good timing) in 1995, probably just as they needed him. Shihad seemed doomed to be remembered for that Home Again song and Pacifier, they left heaps of great b sides off that BORING Love is the new hate album (which was just a pop rock copy of that Killjoy one they did 10 years before). Their ignite album in 2010 was mostly rubbish. I am really hoping for something more interesting for future records. To revive the bands career this documentary should of been put out in 2006, when they played those FREE Auckland shows for their fans and launching their new record. I don't think that Pacifier album they did in 2002 was that bad, but it wasn't really THEM, and the way it was marketed on the radio with much of the other commercial rock dung about at the time didn't help. Name changes are name changes, its the music that matters. And the music of Shihad has not been great or amazing at all since 1996 or 1998 and that is a while now.

"Great Storytelling"
4 stars"
Purchased on Mighty Ape

This was an interesting story. I've enjoyed Shihad's music over the years and this glimpse behind the scenes with small intimate details of the bands personal lives made me nostalgic and I played their albums back to back soon after watching. Worth a look even if your not a fan purely for great music documentary storytelling.
