We have the collar set so that it beeps, vibrates, then shocks. The dog has to keep barking through the first two warnings to receive a shock. I tried the collar on myself before putting it on my dog to make sure it would not be too painful, and the shock feels like someone pinching your skin – it's not too bad.
Sadly I made the mistake of buying two of these, what a waste of money! Neither one works as it should no matter which settings I had them set to. I've purchased cheaper ones from China that worked better than these!
