Our objects and desires are mutual, and the ends to be attained are the same. There is no conflict of interest between us, and it is to be hoped that the harmony that has hitherto marked every action will be un disturbed. Judgments may be divided, upon this measure or that, but it is only a different method of reaching the same end. The solemn duties and responsibilities that we assume this day derive additional force from the fact that the interests of others are in our hands. To discharge these duties honestly and conscientiously, but, at the same time, with a just and discriminating judgment, becomes our peculiar province.
