This volume is part of a series designed to introduce children to the concept of their local area. The book uses contemporary photographs to highlight possible features in children's own local environment. It includes: consideration of different aspects of the local area and how these aspects could be made safer; simple activities such as how to draw a map; and information to help children recognize changes in their environment. The series has strong links with another Heinemann series, "What was it Like in the Past?"
