Peafowls are characterised by peacocks and their magnificent plumes. These are part of their courtship display behaviour to win over the rather unimpressive hens.
The most striking feature of the magnificent coat of full-grown cocks is the tail-plumage of approximately 150 feathers out and displayed during courtship. Every single jewelled feather has an eyespot at the end. The hens also feature a small crown of plumes on their heads, but are otherwise rather unimpressive.
