This Arctic wolf has long, dense guard hairs and a thick, warming undercoat to protect it from the icy cold.
Fun Fact: The Arctic wolf lives in regions where the temperature rarely rises above –22 degrees.
The Arctic wolf lives in the Canadian Arctic islands and northern Greenland. It is so cold there that the soil does not thaw, even in “summer”. But not only the temperatures are a challenge for the wolf. In search of prey, it has to travel up to 30 km per day. Sometimes it goes for weeks without food, especially during the winter, when it is pitch dark for 4–5 months. But the habitat also provides an advantage: This far north, humans can hardly prey on it.
