Author Biography

Robert Capa was born in 1937 in Budapest and was subsequently driven from Hungary by political oppression. He was first recognized for photographing the Spanish Civil War, and during his lifetime, he photographed some of the most momentous events of the century, including the Japanese invasion of China in 1938, the liberation of Paris and the Battle of the Bulge in World War II, and the founding of Istael in 1948. Away from the front lines. Capa was surrounded throughout his life by such celebrities and luminaries as Ernest Hemingway, Gary Cooper, Ingrid Bergman, and Pablo Picasso. His photographs have appeared in major magazines including Life, Time, Look, Picture Post, The New York Herald Tribune, among others.
