In this letter, dated Richmond, November 8, 1782, in speaking of his preemption of acres on the waters of Cumberland River, Campbell remarks: There is a man in that country by the name of Mansker who now claims the land by right of settlement, but my location was made several years before he moved to that country, and I believe he would never have troubled me by interfering with my claim had he not been instigated by Tom and Sam Bryan, with whom he was intimate Cf.
