Description

Excerpt from Relations of Diseases of the Eye to General Diseases: Forming a Supplementary Volume to Every Manual and Text-Book of Practical Medicine and Ophthalmology The point of view is from the side of the general practitioner, who having in hand a particular case, say for example of tabes' dor salis, is put into possession of the various eye_ lesions liable to occur; Whether these be present or absent he is prepared to understand the ocular phenomena. In fact, the book serves the valuable purpose of a cross index between the general field of medicine and an impor tant specialty. On the other hand, the oculist finds his range of view enlarged and is made to realize in a more adequate degree, that local disease may depend upon and be the signal of a lesion of some re mote organ or of a constitutional affection. He is made to appreciate the need of wide observation of symptoms, and-is kept in touch with the pathology and therapeutics of medicine at large. The editor has added little to the author's pages and has not taken upon himself the work of translation.
